Jacob Jensen and Bang & Olufsen:
It is fair to say that without Jacob Jensen the Bang & Olufsen (B&O) company would never have achieved their striking international success. However, without Bang & Olufsen the name Jacob Jensen might not be such a powerful name in the industrial design world today.
Jacob Jensen Design received particular recognition in connection with Bang & Olufsen (B&O). Jacob Jensen was chief designer for B&O for more than two decades, and he created an extensive line of audio products which were innovative and became recognized on an international scale.
Jacob Jensen’s working relationship with B&O began in 1964, and continued in various forms until 1991. During the years 1965-85, Jacob Jensen developed the exclusive and aesthetic basis of Bang & Olufsen. That exclusivity and aesthetic appeal continues to be the basis of Bang & Olufsen’s entire product line. In fact it is almost impossible to find a movie made in the 30 years which is trying to portray a high class, cool individual which does not have some Bang & Olufsen products visible in the background.
From 1985 to 1989 Jacob Jensen functioned as adviser to Bang & Olufsen on matters of design and strategy. Altogether, Jacob Jensen has designed more than 200 products for Bang & Olufsen, among them music systems, amplifiers, record players, tape recorders, CD-players, remote controls and loudspeakers.
In 1972, seven Bang & Olufsen (B&O) audio products, designed by Jacob Jensen were included in the Design Collection of the world famous Museum of Modern Art in New York. Today the Museum hold 19 Jacob Jensen B&O designs in their permanent collection.
